Feminist artist Mary Beth Edelson uses famous religious imagery in her piece Some Living American Women Artists (1972) to critique the patriarchal society that conservative Christianity created. In doing so, she contradicts traditional Biblical theology that says women ought to be subservient to men and makes them equal by quite literally giving women a place at the table.
